वीरता जैसा कि अक्सर होता है यानी राजा जालिम था । वह जनता पर बड़ा अन्याय करता था और जनता अन्याय सहती थी, क्योंकि जनता को न्याय के बारे में कुछ नहीं मालूम था । राजा को ऐसे सिपाही रखने का शौक था जो बेहद वफ़ादार हों । बेहद वफ़ादार सिपाही रखने का शौक उन्हीं को होता है, जो बुनियादी तौर पर जालिम और क़मीने होते हैं । और राजा को हमेशा ये डर लगा रहता था कि उसके सिपाही वफ़ादार नहीं है और वह अपने सिपाहियों की वफादारी का लगातार इम्तिहान लिया करता था । एक दिन उसने अपने एक सिपाही से कहा कि अपना एक हाथ काट डालो । सिपाही ने हाथ काट डाला । राजा बड़ा खुश हुआ और उसे वीरता का बहुत बड़ा इनाम दिया । फिर एक दिन उसने एक दूसरे सिपाही से कहा कि अपनी टाँग काट डालो । सिपाही ने ऐसा ही किया और वीरता दिखाने का इनाम पाया । इसी तरह राजा अपने सिपाहियों के अंग कटवा-कटवाकर उन्हें वीरता के इनाम देता रहा । एक दिन राजा ने देश के सबसे वीर सैनिक से कहा कि तुम वास्तव में कोई ऐसा बहादुरी का काम करो, जिसे कोई न कर सकता हो । वीर सैनिक ने तलवार निकाली, आगे बढ़ा और राजा का सिर उड़ा दिया ।
