Lal Kitab is famous for astrogical Upayas but I found it equally applicable for explaining the basics of Palmistry in a very simple way.
Palm is considered akin to a huge island and on the boundary are the mountains (mounts). The size of the mountains and the strength of mounts will define and indicate how the impact of hot/cold air from the mountains will affect our lives.
Various rivers (lines) emanate from the mountains and travel towards the island. The depth of the rivers indicte it's flow and the consequent impact in our life. Various branches from and to the rivers indicte that dirty water is mixing in the river or is going away from the river and that defines the impact of that particular line in our life.
Also, where and in which direction the river flows like to and from a mountain will tell us the taste of water from each river.
All the rivers (lines) finally merge into the sea (island or Palm) which is also called Samundra (sea). This is the reason that Palmistry is also called Samundrik Vidya.
